Supporting Natural Conception

Acupuncture increases blood flow to the ovaries which in Chinese Medicine theory, enhances follicle development resulting in a higher chance of conception. Increased blood flow to the uterus can thicken the lining and increase the success of implantation.

Fertility acupuncture works with your specific Chinese Medicine diagnosis which you will be given in your first session. Common fertility diagnoses include: Kidney deficiency, blood deficiency, blood stagnation and cold in the uterus.

Needles placed in specific points on channel meridians can strengthen the kidney energy, nourish the blood, move stagnant blood and warm the uterus, depending on what is needed for each patient.

IVF Support

Acupuncture protocol for IVF treatment starts in the months leading up to IVF.

It is recommended to attend weekly sessions in order to prepare a woman's reproductive system for IVF. Hullender Rubin (2018) found that more sessions over an extended period are required for optimal effect.

We then continue weekly sessions during the down regulation phase if this is part of your treatment.

During the stimulation phase, twice weekly treatments are recommended.

Acupuncture during ovarian stimulation is related to IVF success rates for pregnancy and live births according to Qian (2016).

Treatments before and after embryo transfer are also undertaken.

Gynaecological conditions

Acupuncture can regulate hormones and regulate the menstrual cycle thus helping with gynaecological conditions such as PCOS, irregular periods and PMT.

Acupuncture helps the flow of blood and qi thus helping to relieve pain from fibroids and endometriosis and support the reproductive system when these conditions are causing sub fertility.

Acupuncture with us may also be beneficial for male fertility problems such as a low sperm count, motility and morphology. Contact us to discuss individual cases.

Pregnancy Acupuncture

Once you have a positive pregnancy test, it is recommended to continue acupuncture during the first trimester.

This continues to support the kidney energy which supports progesterone and strengthens the uterus. Acupuncture points also nourish the growth of the foetus, preventing miscarriage.

Acupuncture is effective for pregnancy nausea, back pain, tiredness and sleep disturbances.

Acupuncture can be an effective tool for natural induction of labour is you wish to avoid a medical induction.
