Spirit Animal Fertility Signs - What Do They Mean For Your Journey?

As part of a spiritual journey, we all receive signs and synchronicities from the Universe. However, when you are busy, stressed or anxious, it’s easy to miss them.

When you look out for spiritual signs you’ll find that you are always receiving support and advice for the next steps on your journey. Today, we are going to look at a common way that that the Universe communicates with us…

Spirit Animals

Animal messengers visit humans frequently in order to calm us, impart wisdom and give advice or messages of support. You may feel connected to one particular animal or group of animals or you may find that you keep seeing a certain animal during a certain time period. When the message has been delivered and acted on, that animal messenger may retreat and be replaced by another who can help you with the next big question or step on your journey. You may see spirit animals as real life animals, dreams about an animal, images of the animals, written words about the animal, or that the animal comes up in conversation.

For example, I recently had a vivid dream about multiple peacocks all opening their feathers in unison. I woke up, looked at my phone and there was a photo memory of a time I had visited a farm. The photo was of a peacock.

Here are some common spirit animals and their spiritual meanings.

Lion

A lion is a spiritual sign of strength and power. A lion was the symbol of the Ancient Mesopotamian fertility goddess Inanna Ishtar. Lion spirit animals will come to you if you need reminding of your strength; the strength of your fertility organs, your body and your emotional resilience. A lion is also the symbol of the star sign Leo. The Lion's gate portal on 8th August (8/8) during Leo season is a powerful manifestation gateway. A lion appearing on your fertility path may be a reminder to stick to your manifestations and visualisations. A lion is a masculine energy and having a lion as your spirit animal is a call to step into the masculine elements of your personality such as leadership, action and confidence. You may see the number sequence 88 when you see lions.

Snake

A snake is a powerful sign of transformation and of the Divine Feminine. They are associated with Divine Feminine wisdom, intuition and fertility. As many humans have a primal fear of snakes and in popular culture have been associated with deceitful individuals, seeing a snake or snake imagery is a sign that you are shedding old beliefs or shadow aspects of yourself (such as fear and mistrust) and are ready to transform into a new you. In the Chinese zodiac, 2025 is the Year of the Snake, meaning that it is a powerful year for female healing, change and fertility. If you were born in 1977, 1989 or 2001 the Snake is your Chinese zodiac animal. The number 5 means change. You may see your birth year if you were born in the year of the snake, or the numbers 55 or 555 to signify that you are ready for change in your life.

Rabbit

Rabbits are important spirit animals for fertility due to their high reproductive rate, and the fact that they mate in Spring, which is associated with renewal, new life and the start of the astrological calendar. A rabbit was the spirit animal of Aphrodite in Greek mythology and Venus in Roman mythology. Aphrodite and Venus are different names for the same deity who represents the Divine Feminine. The Pagan fertility goddess Eostre gave her name to the Easter festival and the Spring Equinox celebration of Ostara on 21st March. Eostre or Ostara was associated with rabbits, hence why we have the Easter bunny as a symbol of new life. When rabbits visit you as a spirit animal, expect a message of support and a call to activate your inner joy and playfulness in order to support your inner child and fertility potential. Rabbits originate from Orion, as cats do and therefore they heal with wisdom. They are common therapy animals due to their ability to offer comfort, especially to children. Rabbits work with the Song of the Earth. They hear the frequencies of the Earth and can sense when a predator or human is approaching as their movement affect the vibrations of the Earth. If you are musical you may feel a connection with the rabbit spirit animal.

Horse

Horses are spirit animals for female fertility, sexuality and empowerment. They also embody the quality of freedom. Thus they are an important spirit animal for sacral chakra healing. They originate from Lakumay which is associated with the sacral chakra. The Celtic goddess of fertility Epona, was often depicted with horses and the Greek goddess Demeter is associated with fertility and horses. Through their connections with the Angel Mary and Venus horses are associated with the Divine Feminine. When we feel a connection with horses, they are reminding us to step into our feminine power, empower others and live life freely. If horses keep appearing to you, you may want to spend more time around them. It may also be a call to participate in activities to support your sacral chakra such as dancing and yoga.

Swan

Swans are known across many cultures as symbols of enduring love, commitment and fertility. Swans form partnerships for life and glide through the water, going with the flow. In Celtic mythology, swans are associated with the moon, healing and fertility. In Hinduism the swan is a symbol of purity and nurturing new life. In Native American culture, swans are seen as messengers of the gods. When you see swans, especially in pairs or with their family, it is a message that the love between you and your child whether on this earth or not, is unconditional and eternal.

Butterfly

A butterfly is another sign of transformation on a fertility journey. The metamorphosis from caterpillar to butterfly through the cocoon phase indicates a transmutation of energies from slowness, immaturity and the 3D physical reality to freedom, beauty and the sign of air. Air signs relate to analysis.

Biologists and researchers at the University of Cincinati and the University of Pitsburg have analysed how female butterflies produce reproductive enzymes in order to solve cases of unexplained infertility in humans. Their findings have been published in the journal "Proceedings on the National Academy of Science."

When you see butterflies, the Universe may be confirming that changes are due to take place but also asking you to analyse how you yourself can make those changes.

Butterflies are also bringing the message that huge spiritual growth is possible in our lifetimes. Monarch caterpillars shed their skin 4 times before they become a chrysalis. They grow to over 2,700 times their original size. When you see butterflies look back to where you were on your fertility journey, a year ago, a cycle ago, 4 cycles ago…and see how much you have grown already.

Cat

Cats originate from Orion, the constellation of wisdom and enlightenment. Cats spread wisdom, peace and healing. They show us how to relax. Cats are healers and purr at the frequency of 25-150Hz which is the frequency beneficial for physical healing, bone mending and tissue regeneration. A cat may appear to you if you need help to learn how to relax and reduce anxiety or if you are in need of physical healing, for example after a laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, egg collection or hyper stimulation or C section.

If you have a particular connection with cats it may be because you are a healer yourself. They work with Archangel Raphael, the Archangel in charge of healing and the third eye, the chakra of intuition and psychic ability. All cats are psychic and they know where their family is at all times. When a cat appears to be sleeping or resting for the majority of the time they are actually meditating and intentionally working to raise the frequency of the home. The message from the cat is to learn from them, to relax and meditate.

Ladybird

Ladybirds are symbols are good luck and happiness. When you see a ladybird and express joy, it raises your vibration. Ladybirds spread love, peace, wisdom, joy, harmony and cooperation. Ladybirds originate from Orion and help to clear negative energy around plants. They work with the air elementals such as fairies to remove negative energies around flora and fauna. Ladybirds appear to you on a fertility journey as a sign of good fortune and to remind you to clear stagnant Qi either though acupuncture, exercise, journalling or meditating. And then the seeds of your manifestation can grow into a physical reality.

Phoenix

The mythical creature of the Phoenix is a powerful spirit animal that represents rising out of challenging situations stronger. The phoenix is associated with new beginnings, rebirth and hope. In Chinese mythology, the phoenix and dragon appear together as symbols of the union of masculine and feminine energies which are both needed for new life. The phoenix is a Yin or feminine energy and may appear to you when you need a reminder of your power to transmutation on your fertility journey, to turn a negative situation into a positive. You might want to use the transmutation meditation if you have been receiving spiritual signs of phoenixes.

Turtle

Turtles demonstrate the balancing of different types of feminine energies as they are at one with both the ocean and the land. The ocean is the water element and the land is the earth element which are both Yin. As a marine animal, the turtle is linked to the Moon, bringing in lunar wisdom and a connection with a balanced menstrual cycle. Turtles are in tune with the moon, the oceans, the currents, cycles and natural world. A turtle may appear to you to help you to bring more flow to your feminine energy, such as asking you to seek help to balance hormones and regulate your cycle.

As turtles lay their eggs on land and leave them there, they are demonstrating trust in a different type of fertility journey. A turtle spirit animal may appear to you if you are having IVF and have to leave your eggs or embryos in the care of others. Or to show support and trust for you if you have decided to use donor eggs or sperm. Or if you have had a miscarriage. Not all the baby turtles make it to the ocean, just as not every egg is fertilised, not every embryo implants, not every pregnancy results in a live birth but there are always success stories. And this is what the turtle wishes to communicate with you. Trust your eggs, trust your embryos and trust the journey that your baby has to make.

Elephant

Elephants are symbols of abundance, fertility, feminine energy and family life. Elephants demonstrate the loving, caring and nurturing qualities of the Divine Feminine. Mothers are revered and are central to family life in the elephant unit. Elephant males are protectors and the female elephants are strong, patient and dominant. Elephants are connected to Archangel Raphael, Angel Mary and the planet Jupiter, all associated with the third eye. This is related to the elephants’ psychic abilities of telepathy through their trunk and third eye. Seeing an elephant with a raised trunk is a sign of fertility.
